Teresa Zylis-Gara
I will never forget the first time I heard Teresa Zylis-Gara. It was a recording from the Rudolf Bing Gala in 1972 when she sang the love duet from Otello with Franco Corelli. I had gravitated towards that excerpt for Corelli, but found myself totally mesmerized by the angelic beauty of Teresa Zylis-Gara. Zylis-Gara possessed a voice that was both pure and powerful which afforded her enormous versatility in her career. She was able to bring an added dramatic impact to the Mozart roles she sang as well as a purity of tone to Puccini, Verdi and even Wagner. This compilation features arias and excerpts from Don Giovanni, Il Giuramento, Guglielmo Tell, Anna Bolena, Der Rosenkavalier, Otello and Don Carlo.
