If you mention the name "Rysanek" to any opera fan, they will immediately think of Leonie Rysanek. However, Leonie had an older sister, Lotte Rysanek, who was also a singer. While Leonie became a jet-setting opera star, Lotte chose the more stable path of a Fest singer at the Vienna State Opera. Although that meant less glory, it afforded her many opportunities in roles both large and small, sharing the stage with some of the greatest artists of her time — including her sister. It's a joy to be able to share her work with those unfamiliar with her voice. After spending a week compiling these excerpts, I’m convinced that Lotte was every bit the star her sister was. This compilation includes arias from Don Giovanni, Fidelio, Der Freischütz, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Carmen, La Forza del destino, Pagliacci, La Bohème, Turandot, and Madama Butterfly.
