It pains me when I hear people characterize José Carreras as the "lesser" of the three tenors. This is no doubt due to the fact that the recording contracts came after the bloom had begun to fade from his lyrical tenor thanks to pressures to move into repertory that was a little too heavy for him. This compilation, featuring Carreras in his late 20s and early 30s, will bare witness to the enormous potential of his youth as well as his innate sense of style and charisma. It is my hope that it will serve as a reminder of his spot in the pantheon of great tenors. It features arias and excerpts from Il Giuramento, La Traviata, Luisa Miller, Un Ballo in maschera, Don Carlo, Madama Butterfly, La Bohème, Tosca, Adriana Lecouvreur and Lucia di Lammermoor.
