It is my great pleasure to present this retrospective of Dame Gwyneth Jones, in my opinion one of the greatest dramatic sopranos of the later part of the twentieth century. Although primarily known for her Wagnerian roles, she was a soprano of surprising versatility. The compilation opens with a sublime "Non mi dir." The clarity of her fioratura would be the envy of sopranos with half her voice. The first disc also includes highlights from Macbeth, Tosca, Fidelio, Don Carlo and Ariadne auf Naxos. Disc 2 is made up of excerpts from the Ring both as Sieglinde and Brünnhilde. It is a given that to sing Wagner you have to have a large voice, but few sopranos give as much as she does. The sound ranges from fair to excellent. A must-have for Jones' fans.
