This has truly been a summer of loss for the opera world.  First Simionato, then Taddei and now the great Cesare Siepi.  Some may not have even known that he was still alive given the scope of his career, but we must remember that he made his Met debut in the famous 1950 production of Don Carlo when he was only 27.  And even though a fall-out with the Met kept him out of the U.S., he was actively singing up until the late 80s.  With regards to his voice, I don't think that I have the requisite rhetorical powers to sum up his talents but no one will deny that he was one of, if not the bass of the 20th century.  This compilation features arias and excerpts from from Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Don Carlo, Parsifal, Don Giovanni, La Bohème and Mefistofele.
