VERISMO AT ITS BEST
This is certainly the "luxe' performance of this fabulously focused opera. Nothing's wrong here. They even have part of the dress rehearsal from Scala on "You Tube" on the actual La Scala set.

Thrilling Performance in Excellent Sound!
If you want to understand how exciting this opera can be, you must hear this. It was done as part of a tribute to Mascagni with L'amico Fritz as the other half of the evening (with Freni and Raimondi).Corelli and Simionato sing and act up a wild storm here. They were in front of an Italian audience that knew this work intimately and that loved them as well. Corelli sounds like Turiddu to the life and I'm sure looked like a Roman God to boot. Simionato turns up the voltage even higher in their central duet. Her sobs sound like the real thing, her denunciation and curse earn her a huge ovation from the audience. Wow.Guelfi is a frightening Alfio, no one you'd want to mess with. The Lucia and Lola are first-rate too. Gavazzeni leads his forces to a shattering climax. The sound is excellent. As Andy notes above, the first thirty seconds are missing; no matter. No one sings this opera like this today!
