Fiorenza Cossotto and Nicolai Gedda offer a contrast in styles, but ultimately are well-paired. One can sense that Gedda felt a need to match her in intensity, and delivers some of the most visceral singing I have heard from this otherwise "well-behaved" tenor. Adriana Maliponte is divine as Micaëla, and José van Dam lends his charisma and vocal allure to the role of Escamillo.
