Pros:

  • These days it has become rare to hear the two parts of Les Troyens performed independent of one another. I found myself missing Cassandra's big scenes, but the benefit is that it can be performed - as this performance is - without cuts. That is not always a good thing, but it turns out that there really isn't a bad number in this whole piece.
  • Janet Baker brings stature, tragedy and warmth to the role of Dido.
  • The sound is excellent.
