This is a marvelous house recording! The singers a top notch and so is the conductor. The level of accuracy with these parts while still maintaining a high level or artistry. Just sensational. This a a very good marker for why these singers were great and an excellent telling of this great opera.

If you love Wozzeck, you must hear this performance. Ludwig and Berry are terrific as is the supporting cast. Eugenio Valori (a regular in Buenos Aires) actually sings the Hauptmann, making him less hysterical than usual. Rolf Kuhne (the Alberich on the Swarowsky Ring) is a vivid Doctor who, again, sings more than we usually hear in this part. The censor is still present because the Doctor chastises Wozzeck for "coughing" rather then the original "pissing". The Margret sings her brief role with beauty (!) and Leinsdorf leads the whole enterprise with immense authority, his orchestra doing themselves and the composer proud. Other than some brief (less than 15 seconds) of clicking in the last track of disc 1, the sound is superb.The filler is the Prologue from Ariadne auf Naxos that makes one wish the entire performance was available. Ludwig sang the composer many times in Vienna, but this is the first recording I've heard of her in the role. She is, predictably, fantastic. Berry plays the Music Teacher and what we hear of Renate Holm's Zerbinetta is most persuasive. Strongly recommended!
