Pros:
- If you know people in your life who are skeptical of opera in English, I would direct them towards this performance of Fidelio. The English language is delivered with clarity and sincerity. In fact, I was able to transcribe the track information without having the English translation to refer to (a testament also to the excellent quality of the recording.)
- Margaret Harshaw's silvery soprano is an ideal fit for Leonora.
- A young Richard Cassilly brings sublime lyricism to the role of Florestan, without any signs of strain.
- William Steinberg elicits a meticulously detailed interpretation from the orchestra.
Cons:
- None to mention.
BONUS:
Margaret Harshaw sings "Ah, perfido!"
