I attended the opening night in Florence 1969 and have waited till now for a recording of any sort. The performance was from start to finish amazing, unique; not least for the stunning staging by the great Giorgio Strehler with his designer, Ezio Frigerio, which, of course, we cannot see, but it infused the musical performance and inspired Sena Jurinac and the others to give their all. For me it was an ultimative performance, alongside the 1961 one with Sena at Covent Garden, also soon available, under Klemperer; I had attended that as a young teenie and the evening sold me to opera forever) so, although I have heard many a performance since, I have never returned to an opera house for one live. Silly, perhaps, but I still live with the experience sdn opera, as we all know, is a very personal passion und gut so. Congratulations and thanks to Andy and his team at Opera Depot for keeping up the search for so long, until they finally tracked it down! You are all just great!
