Khovanshchina
It's a rare treat to hear two world-class basses—Nicola Ghiuselev and Yevgeny Nesterenko—sharing the stage in this gripping performance of Khovanshchina. Both deliver commanding interpretations that anchor the drama with vocal depth and authority. Elena Obraztsova, still early in her career, brings fiery commitment and a striking emotional charge to the role of Marfa, infusing her performance with unmistakable patriotic fervor.
While the complete Third Act is unfortunately missing from this performance, what remains offers a vivid and impassioned portrayal of Mussorgsky's vast historical canvas. Some occasional audience noise is audible, but it does little to distract from the overall power of the recording.
