It is too bad that we do not live in a world when radio stations feel the need to broadcast excellent studio-made recordings of operas. We should be very grateful for the efforts of the Italian Rai system for providing us with uncountable gems. This recording of Un Ballo in maschera is no exception. It features Montserrat Caballé at the height of her powers. She sings Amelia with power and delicacy. Flaviano Labò is an ardent Riccardo and Mario Sereni is rises to their level as Renato. The sound is excellent.
