Pros:
- No matter how well I think I might know a piece, Carlos Kleiber has a way of making me feel like I am hearing it for the first time. His La Traviata is unapologetically grand in nature with exquisite detail.
- Ileana Cotrubas may not have had the velvetiest soprano, but she is 100% convincing in the title role. One really feels like they are listening to a real person having experiences in real time.
- Jaime Aragall delivers an impassioned Alfredo.
- Even if his voice is not the most Italianate in nature, Wolfgang Brendel still manages to find the truth in Verdi's score, all while delivering sumptuous baritone gold.
