However, Mödl's artistry was more than just reckless abandon, and she achieves some beautiful moments of total vulnerability. \u003cb\u003eHans Hotter\u003c\/b\u003e's Wotan is a shade softer than many of his colleagues who have barked their way through this role. He crafts his singing at many points with the same delicacy that he so famously brought to Lieder. A young \u003cb\u003eRegina Resnik\u003c\/b\u003e is surprisingly good as Sieglinde and, despite the weight of her middle voice, seems to have little trouble with any of Sieglinde's high notes. To compare and contrast, we've included the second half of the opera (beginning with Herod's entrance) from a 1955 performance in Munich, also starring \u003cb\u003eBirgit Nilsson\u003c\/b\u003e. She is in resplendent voice but is less specific.
