It is a shame that Di Stefano never fully embraced this repertoire, because at this point in his career, he proves to be an ideal fit. His voice moves with grace and agility, while also bringing a rare vocal core to the role that is almost never heard. Simionato dazzles with both vocal flexibility and bubbling spirit, and she pairs beautifully with Di Stefano—effortlessly negotiating treacherous vocal fireworks before unleashing Verdian tones capable of stopping a man in his tracks.

Cesare Siepi delivers one of the finest renditions of "La calunnia" I have ever heard.

BONUS:
Giuseppe di Stefano Sings Arias from L'Elisir d'amore, La Traviata and Un Ballo in maschera

In Mono

OD 10494-2

Rossini: L'Italiana in Algeri - Berganza, Casellato, Ganzarolli, Cesari, Catena; Molinari-Pradelli. It helps that he has a cast that is up to the challenge… mostly.
