A cast for Götterdämmerung really doesn't get any better than this. You have Birgit Nilsson, at the peak of her career, singing Brünnhilde, Hans Hopf, a tenor who was never the first choice of his day but would own the world if her were active now, Gottlob Frick, the Bela Lugosi of Basses, as Hagen, Thomas Stewart, as Gunther and even Régine Crespin as the third Norn. With Rudolf Kempe at the helm, it made for an exhilarating culmination to a Ring Cycle that is truly one of the greatest ever preserved. The sound is good.
