In 1967 Jon Vickers was at the height of his powers. From his first lines he commands the attention of both his Cyprian subjects and the audience. He is well matched with Renata Tebaldi who matches him in opulence of voice. She sings her lines in the love duet with such purity, it makes her tragic outcome all the more heartbreaking. Louis Quilico shows that he is one of the great American baritones. There is some hiss in the sound.
