 Listening to this recording, it occured to me that it is a shame that Magda Olivero did not sing Minnie more often. Certainly that has something to do with the fact that it was (and still is to a great extent) a rarity in the sixties. Her voice and temperment are very well suited to the demands of the role. Vocally she brings the combination of innocence and steel that is needed to successfully convey this virginal cowgirl. And her fans will not be surprised when I tell you that she is very viscerally moving in the card scene. The sound is excellent. |
