Sound Quality: ★★★★☆

Horst Stein did not reach the heights of fame in his field, but he did have a long career specializing in Wagner.  In this performance from Vienna he shows that he is not only a great interpreter of Wagner but he is also a master at supporting singers so that they are heard to their best advantage.  His phrasing is musical and he keeps it moving.  Theo Adam convey’s Wotan’s wisdom and aggressive ambition.  Peter Hofmann is heard as Loge and without having to push his voice beyond his means is able to create some beautiful tones.   The sound is good.
