Pros:

  • Desite approaching 60 at the time of this performance, Hans Hopf show that he can still make mincemeat of one of Wagner's most challenging roles for tenor.
  • Helga Dernesch's auburn-hued soprano finds a good home in the role of Elisabeth, although as the evening progresses she begins to lose some stamina - particularly during the Act III prayer.
  • A young Matti Salminen makes a strong impression as Landgraf.

Cons:

  • None to mention.
