Pros:

  • Despite the fact that the sound is not ideal and portions of the performance are missing, this recordings offers a tantalizing glimpse into the remarkable casting powers of the Vienna Staatsoper in the 1970s.
  • Catarina Ligendza is in top-form as Brünnhilde.
  • Hans Beirer brings a burly sweetness to the role of Siegfried.
  • The rest of the cast speaks for intself: Karl Ridderbusch as Hagen, Thomas Stewart as Gunther, Gundula Janowitz as Gutrune, Grace Hoffman as Waltraute and even Lotte Rysanek as Woglinde.

Cons:

  • The sound is not great.

NOTE:
The beginning of each act is missing, most notably the entire Norn scene.
