This recording of Ernani is a wonderfully preserved specimen of Verdi from the early 50s. Caterina Mancini had a wonderfully rich and nimble voice perfect for Elvira. Gino Penno had a meaty tone similar to Pavarotti's in color. Giuseppe Taddei is in excellent form. Most of his recorded output is from later in his career so it is very valuable to have this document. The sound is excellent.
