Pros:

  • The part of Juliette straddles the world of lyric spinto and lyric coloratura, which more often than not means a performance featuring a soprano whose voice is either to heavy or too light. Christiane Eda-Pierre manages to hit all the marks, opening with a glittering "Je veux vivre" and then pivoting to some exquisite, velvety singing in the love duet with Romeo.
  • John Sandor is very good as Roméo, bringing to mind Alfredo Kraus.

Cons:

  • Juliette's poison aria is cut.
